We are seeking  a  motivated  Mechanical Engineer looking to take on new design challenges and build a rewarding career and committed to the success of our engineering team. Candidate must be an excellent communicator and have excellent technical skills. Position involves working closely with our technical and management team in the turnkey engineering and fabrication of company’s existing and new smart poles, smart streetlights and new products being designed and manufactured to support the wireless industry’s 4G and 5G deployments and future broadband and IoT technologies.  

General Position Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for turning customer requirements into specifications, assessing concept designs and integrating new technology into the CityPole® system and other smart infrastructure products. The Mechanical Engineer provides advanced analysis in thermal and fluid analysis and design products using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Primary proficiency in SOLIDWORKS® system is expected and AutoCAD® system experience is helpful. The Mechanical Engineer is also responsible for analyzing designs for thermal performance using state-of-the-art analysis tools, requiring thermal, mechanical and structural calculations. The ideal engineer has CAD and sheet metal design experience (specifically sheet metal parts in SOLIDWORKS® system), a firm understanding of fabrication processes, and proven ability to make accurate drawings.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Convert customer requirements into specifications using computer-assisted design/drafting equipment and software
  2. Perform design assessments of concepts and integration of new technology within smart infrastructure, e.g., CityPole® system
  3. Perform advanced analysis in both thermal and fluid analysis
  4. Provide solutions to a variety of thermal related technical problems of moderate scope and complexity associated with smart poles and other smart infrastructures
  5. Documents thermal analyses and designs
  6. Solve problems employing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software products integrated into CAD design tools
  7. Detail electrical routing designs
  8. Detail design of a complete product and production of fabrication drawings, including detailing parts, assemblies and installations
  9. Create and revises production/fabrication drawings, including detail and assembly drawings.
  10. Transform design concepts into full fabrication set drawing
  11. Develops and improves company-wide CAD standards and drawing set templates
  12. Updates and maintains product lifecycle database following company standards to manage product data and process-related information
  13. Work closely with fabrication, assembly and suppliers to improve processes and develop best practices
  14. Participate in design reviews and provide critical thought input into future designs
  15. Support advanced development prototyping
  16. Review and redline drawing sets completed by other engineers
  17. Communicate, coordinate and collaborate with quality assurance (QA), engineering and manufacturing/tooling on new and revised prints

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  3. Strong proficiency in SOLIDWORKS® system required
  4. AutoCAD competence is a plus
  5. Experience in electrical routing a plus

  8. Excellent oral communication skills, especially presentation/public speaking skills
  9. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  10. Proficiency in creating photo-simulations a plus.

Education and Experience

  • ­Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required, with preference for a master’s degree in a technical discipline
  • Experience:
      • Minimum 5 years of experience working with SOLIDWORKS® system products in a production environment required
      • Demonstrable experience/understanding of PDM databases and product structures required
      • Experience working with manufacturing and fabrication shops required
      • Strong sheet metal design experience required
  • Strong proficiency in DFM (Design for Manufacturability) required
  • Drafting and print creation using GD&T
  • Good knowledge of inspection methodologies is a plus
  • Ability to self-manage preferred
  • Experience working with external customers preferred
  • SOLIDWORKS® system, MS Office, PDx, Fishbowl Time, MS Teams required
