Thermal Specialization Analyst

We are seeking a motivated Thermal Specialization Analyst  looking to take on new design challenges and build a rewarding career and committed to the success of our engineering team. Candidate must be an excellent communicator and have excellent technical skills. Position involves working closely with our technical and management team in the turnkey engineering and fabrication of company’s existing and new smart poles, smart streetlights and new products being designed, manufactured and deployed in the area of distributed energy and security structures.

General Position Summary

The Thermal Specialization Analyst position is integral to the success of Comptek Technologies and will have a direct impact on the success of the business unit. You will be responsible for turning customer requirements into specifications, assessing concept designs and integrating new technology into the CityPole® system and other smart infrastructure products. You will provide advanced analysis in thermal and fluid analysis and design products using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Primary proficiency in SOLIDWORKS® is expected and AutoCAD® experience is helpful. You will be asked to analyze designs for thermal performance using state-of-the-art analysis tools. A strong mechanical aptitude and ability to complete mechanical and structural calculations with an emphasis on thermal and computational fluid mechanics calculations are essential to succeed. As a member of the Engineering and Design Team, you will be involved in the entire product cycle.

Essential Job Functions

  • Converts customer requirements into specifications using computer-assisted design/drafting (SOLIDWORKS® preferred, and AutoCAD® a plus) equipment and software
  • Performs design assessments of concepts and integration of new technology within the smart infrastructure such as the CityPole® system
  • Performs advanced analysis in both thermal and fluid analysis
  • Provides solutions to a variety of thermal related technical problems of moderate scope and complexity associated with smart poles and other smart infrastructure
  • Documents thermal analyses and designs
  • Solve problems employing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software products integrated into CAD design tools
  • Details electrical routing designs
  • Details design of a complete product and production of fabrication drawings, including detailing parts, assemblies and installations
  • Creates and revises production/fabrication drawings, including detail and assembly drawings
  • Transforms design concepts into full fabrication set drawing
  • Develops and improves company-wide CAD standards and drawing set templates
  • Updates and maintains product lifecycle database following company standards to manage product data and process-related information
  • Works closely with manufacturing, assembly and suppliers to improve processes and develop best practices
  • Participates in design reviews and provides critical thought input into future designs
  • Supports advanced development prototyping
  • Reviews and redlines drawing sets completed by other engineers
  • Communicates, coordinates and collaborates with quality assurance (QA), engineering and manufacturing/tooling on new and revised prints
  • Collaborate with mechanical, structural and electrical engineers and industrial designers as a team

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Significant personal initiative, decision-making and leadership. Incumbent must be capable of working autonomously and without significant direct supervision
  • Strong ability to develop company processes, CAD standards and drawing templates
  • Excellent ability to interpret RF data sheets and plumbing diagrams and to incorporate information obtained from drawings
  • Strong proficiency in SOLIDWORKS® required, CSWP – Mechanical Design preferred
  • Strong proficiency in SOLIDWORKS® Flow Simulator preferred
  • AutoCAD competence is a plus.
  • Experience in electrical routing a plus
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Excellent oral communication skills, especially presentation/public speaking skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Significant demonstrated capabilities in time management and organizational skills required

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required, with preference for a master’s degree in additional technical discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with SOLIDWORKS® products in a production environment required
  • Demonstrable experience/understanding of PDM databases and Product Structures required
  • Experience working with manufacturing and fabrication shops required
  • Experience working with external customerspreferred
