General Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated individual for our Aurora facility who thrives in a fast-paced environment, working with multiple projects, and interdisciplinary teams. The Lean Manufacturing Engineer participates in and contributes to lean improvement activities, looking at safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost, and efficiency, delivering benefits to support customer satisfaction. Brings knowledge of their area of work to the lean process.  The lean manufacturing engineer will serve as a process owner, incorporating responsibilities that encompass the safety, quality, equipment, personnel training, and efficiency of these processes.

Essential Job Functions

  • Analyze current work practices to identify areas for improvement and educate as to how to improve business and manufacturing processes

  • Devise and test solutions and roll out new ways of working

  • Participate in Lean health checks and go/no goes 

  • Perform workplace audits and streamlining processes within area of responsibility

  • Process mapping, value stream mapping, identifying inefficiencies in productivity with a particular focus on layouts and sequencing

  • Recommend to management changes that can cut waste from operating procedures 

  • Deploy appropriate methodologies to problem solving and support teams to solve problems

  • Ensure the escalation process for problem solving is effective

  • Demonstrate performance excellence behaviors within the business and champion performance excellence 

  • Support the business in establishing “best practice” 

  • Implement standard work, visual factory and error proofing (poka yoke)

  • Undertake continuous training and development 

  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems 

  • Carry out time and motion studies to support productivity improvements 

  • Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on appropriate systems 

  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them 

  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience through knowledge sharing, training, and skill develop of team members to enhance the overall capability and performance of the team

  • Evaluate manufactured products according to specifications and quality standards

  • Review product designs for manufacturability or completeness. 

  • Train production personnel in new or existing methods. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Liaise and communicate with other departments, customers, suppliers and other service providers
  • Work as part of the team to share ideas and improve operation, recommending, supporting and implementing continuous improvement activities and carry out process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards requirements in line with company and customer requirements 
  • Ensure an effective interface with other departmental staff is maintained

  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures  
  • General knowledge of metals and plastics processing and forming techniques 
  • Solid knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and tools. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of collaboration at all levels 
  • Ability to set priorities based on details and factual information. 
  • Proven experience working in an ISO 9001-2015 environment 
  • Ability to perform in a rapidly evolving and dynamic environment

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in engineering level math skills 
  • Microsoft Office, ERP (Epicor a plus), SolidWorks, PDX, AutoCAD, MS Teams

Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of lean manufacturing engineering experience
  • Experience in ISO facility (preferred)  
  • BS Mechanical or Industrial Engineering

  • Minimum Green Sigma Certification
