General Position Summary

The Strategic Sourcing Manager is a highly visible, strategic position responsible for identifying new sources of supply and developing relationships with the current supply base to enhance the negotiation and purchasing of goods, materials, and services to meet Company operational requirements. This includes supplier selection, on-boarding, contract negotiation, and cost estimating. The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for ongoing management of purchasing strategy and activity and for ensuring optimal supplier performance and price. The manager develops and implements an in-source and outsourcing process, develops the supply base to meet it, and ensures the organization is operating in line with the objectives of the business to add value, mitigate supply chain risk and deliver cost savings. This requires developing and maintaining strategic supplier relationships and managing the development of contracts, contractual relationships, and contract management to deliver continuous improvement in delivery of goods and services by the supply base. The Strategic Sourcing Manager works alongside the senior management team in contributing to overall business objectives.

  • Create and implement best practice purchasing vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve business performance
  • Ensure purchasing strategies and processes meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets, which enables company to function and compete effectively in the market to include terms and conditions, supplier selection/de-selection, evaluation and rationalization of supply chain solutions, including vendor managed inventory, supplier consignments, and safety stock
  • Manage supplier relationships, and negotiate with key suppliers at a senior and strategic level
  • Negotiate contract terms with key suppliers to ensure value for money, quality standards and delivery terms with technical and operational input from stakeholders, if appropriate
  • Craft negotiation strategies, and close deals with optimal terms
  • Forecast price and market trends to identify changes of balance in buyer-supplier power
  • Seek and partner with reliable vendors and suppliers
  • Develop an overall vendor base, which creates and sustains a competitive advantage utilizing global market exploitation, leveraging spends and leveraging technologies
  • Develop, implement and maintain a supplier relationship and evaluation process to measure effective supplier performance and compliance
  • Work closely with research and development to source new and alternative raw materials
  • Mentor and coach Buyers and Assistant Buyers to enhance career and professional development 
  • Work collaboratively and negotiate and engage with stakeholders and suppliers on new projects, supplies and initiatives, and advise of impact of any change on purchasing and production activities
  • Stay current and up to date on any changes that may affect the supply and demand of needed products and materials, and advise others of any impact
  • Attend meetings and update others on issues or concerns, particularly when a risk could prevent the company in meeting customer demands or where there are overcapacity concerns
  • Support product change requests, and review and communicate impact on strategic capacity plans
  • Build, maintain and manage supplier and internal relationships, and ensure good communications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Finance or related field 

    MBA (preferred)

  • CPP/CPPM Certification (preferred)
